I. Definition of Missions and Local Outreach
Missions at Armenian Brotherhood Bible Church is defined as the sending out and supporting of equipped disciple-makers who cross barriers of distance, culture and language in order to establish and strengthen the church in places beyond the normal sphere of influence of our members, both within and outside the USA.
Armenian Brotherhood Bible Church’s normal sphere of influence is defined as the area of Local Outreach, particularly the Armenian community in Pasadena, and surrounding cities. Local Outreach includes presenting the gospel and meeting the spiritual, social and physical needs of people within the local community. Local Outreach involves more of our people’s time and personal efforts.
Missions, on the other hand, involve sending individuals into and investing more of our finances outside our normal sphere of influence.
At ABBC, the Missions Committee is committed to the mobilization of the church body to be involved in both Local Outreach and Missions.
II. Purpose
In its desire to obey the Great Commission of Jesus Christ and further the work of the Gospel, the Armenian Brotherhood Bible Church sets the following directives:
- Encourage intercessory prayer of the congregation for world evangelism and missions.
- Educate and increase the awareness of our congregation to the needs and results of worldwide mission ministry.
- Organize, publicize and coordinate the opportunities of faith giving for mission ministry.
- Review, evaluate, investigate, and make recommendation to the church Board.
- Administrate, evaluate, and seek accountability for the entire missions program including missionaries, local outreach agencies, and various projects supported by our church.
- Ensure optimum stewardship of human and financial resources.
III. Scriptural Basis of Missions and Outreach
- The great commission (Matt. 18:19-20; Mark 16:15; John 20:21; Luke 24:47; Isaiah 49:6).
- To share Christ’s heart for the world (Matt. 9:36-38; Matt. 18:10-14).
- To see men saved and brought to the knowledge of God (John 3:16; Romans 10:13-15).
- To build up the body of Christ through discipling (Eph. 4:12-16).
- To minister to the totality of human need proportionate with the overall task of world evangelization (Matt. 22:37-39; Matt. 25:31-46).
- To help support those that are chosen and sent out by God to go into mission service throughout the world (Acts 13:2).
- Reaching out beyond our church’s immediate sphere of influence. (Acts 1:8).
